The annual tour of Coal Creek Station and Falkirk Mine took place June 19, 20, 21, 2007. This year 56 people attended, 33 adults and 23 were students between the ages of 6-18. This three day trip was definitely a highlight for all that attended.
The first day included travel on a motor coach, entertainment on the motor coach, a fun lunch stop at the Fargo West Acres Mall food court and rest stops along the way, until we arrived at the Country Suites motel in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Tuesday the tour began with a complete tour of the electric generating power plant, Coal Creek Station, continuing to the Falkirk Mine where lignite coal is mined and delivered to Coal Creek Station, and a stop at the Garrison Dam.
Late Tuesday afternoon the travelers had the opportunity to relax at the motel. Later that evening there were a variety of planned activities. The activities included dinner at the Space Alien's restaurant, educational electrical related games, swimming at the motel's water park, and an ice cream social. Thursday morning everyone was back on the bus and we departed for Owatonna.
The 2007 Coal Creek Tour was very educational, yet entertaining. We are going to continue to offer this trip to co-op members in the future. We encourage you to bring students and grandchildren on this exciting, three-day adventure to North Dakota. At Steele-Waseca we feel that it is important to educate students about the process required to get electricity to them each and every day.
