Minnesota State Statute 216D requires anyone who engages in any type of excavation, more than 12 inches deep, call Gopher State One Call (GSOC) at 1-800-252-1166. The call must be made 48 hours prior to when work is to begin.
GSOC is the communication link between the excavator and the companies who will need to locate their underground cable. GSOC is open 24 hours, seven days a week. Calls after 5 PM and before 7 AM or on weekends or holidays are accepted for emergencies only. An emergency is "a condition that poses a clear and immediate danger to life or health or a significant loss of property".
It should be noted that location markings are only estimates and the exact location of the underground cable may vary by up to 24 inches. Digging within this 48 inch area should be done carefully with hand tools or you may call for a person from the company to be on site during the digging.
Primary electric cable will be located at no cost to you. However, if your secondary electric cable needs locating, you will need to call your electrician or you may request Steele-Waseca Cooperative Electric's Locator do it for you at your expense.
